Learning about the Physical Parts of Your Desktop PC

Your personal computer is a system consists of many components. Some of those parts, such as your OS, word processors, and other applications, are called software. The other components, which you can actually see and touch, are called hardware. Read on to be enlightened about the different physical parts that your equipment is composed of.

●    Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

This is where the vast range of information in your computer is stored. This part uses magnetic recording in order to store data on rotating circular platters. Its capacity is usually measured in gigabytes.

●    Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Similar to how a brain controls a human body, this component sends signals to control the other parts of the PC. It is an electronic machine that works on a list of things to do and does each task in order. The list of instructions that a CPU can read is called a computer program.

●    Memory

This is a temporary storage area, and it keeps the data and instructions that the CPU needs. This is considered a necessity for any computer because before a program can run, it is first loaded into the memory; from there, the CPU can gain direct access to the application.

●    Motherboard

This is the main circuit board in the complex electronic system of the PC. It is the central part of the equipment; all the other different parts of a computer are connected to this component. In most PCs, the motherboard may come in different colours such as black, red, and yellow.
